Elsa’s art is an extension of herself and through her art she has been able to channel her emotions and life experience to grow as a person within herself.

My main genre of work is Wildlife, Symbolic Realism, Emotionally Expressive Portraits and Nude Studies with my medium of choice being acrylics. A am however well versed in many various genres and mediums.

Since completing my BA in Fine Art at the University of Pretoria in 1980, I taught art at various high schools and technical colleges, held various one-person and group exhibitions, taught private art classes to both Children and Adults. After several years in teaching, I gave it up to devote myself fully to painting, only offering classes every so often. I have completed an Art Therapy course as well and would like to assist people in rediscovering their own creativity and experience it as a healing process.

On painting animals, I am humbled by their presence every time I see them, by their spirit. Their unique beauty and individuality. My ultimate aim is to depict them in their natural state of total unawareness of an onlooker. Each painting is seen as a tool to communicate emotion.

This vigorous artist is passionate about life, people, nature and colour and wants to make a difference through her paintings. She would like to touch people’s souls and connect with them on a deeper level to bring healing and freedom. She also integrates textures and different mixed media.

Elsa Cornelissen grew up in a small town, Prieska on the south bank of the Orange River, in the province of the Northern Cape, South Africa. After completing her studies at the University of Pretoria she moved to Hartbeespoort, North West Province, South Africa where she still runs a full-time studio. Elsa has two beautiful daughters and enjoys the outdoors.
