This is a Latin name used to refer to the inhabitants of then-known northern Africa to the west of the Nile River. In its widest sense, it referred to all lands south of the Mediterranean.

“classic”

The noun classic describes something that is an outstanding example of a particular style and timeless quality. It has all the features and more, which you expect such a thing or situation to have.

“Africlassic”

The combination of the above says it all. Africlassic celebrates and pays tribute to the African Continent and its People. It celebrates various attractions, making each of the participating properties a fascinating destination.

Africlassic is a family-owned and run company, founded by the Van Sandwyk family in 2004. We develop and promote worthy hospitality properties under the “Africlassic Brand” in our favorite place in the world, namely South Africa.

So, how did it all start? Our family had early beginnings in Harrismith, South Africa. Our family arrived in South Africa in the 1860’s settling in the beautiful town of Harrismith. The Van Sandwyk Family turned out to be real entrepreneurs from early days with involvement in the motor industry (General Motors 1920-1976), farming operations, filling stations, restaurants, and eventually the hospitality industry. We have a passion for what we do. We firmly believe in our country and the tourism opportunities offered.

Africlassic Rivonia – River Lodge occupies a unique, secluded, private position on the Braamfontein Spruit, Sandton. Each of our rooms’ décor pays tribute to an African Country and its People. The authentic artifacts and unique décor items reflect a deep love for the African Continent and its inhabitants. You will experience magnificent river views from the POIKIE Restaurant Patio and the Taste of Morocco Bedouin Tent.

Also, enjoy views from the Zanzibar beach area. The majestic trees on the riverbank create dappled shade from the sun’s rays through the cool riverine forest. The public guest areas blend perfectly with the beauty of the outdoors. Earthy textured materials have been used throughout the design. The autumn slate tiled floors add a colorful montage of deep orange, black hues, and rusty shades.

The sound of the flowing river with forest green backdrop, combined with the rich colors of bygone silver lanterns, sandstone columns, wood, brass, gold, and khaki. This combination sets the scene for a truly unique experience.
